Can we get a little simplicity over here please? 7 Top Tips to simplify your life

There’s a well-known quote by Chinese philosopher Confucius that says ‘Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated’. If you are in a daily-Tasmanian-devil-dirt-spin moment where you feel overwhelmed, stressed out and hectic, chances are you will read this quote and utter ‘it is bloody complicated’ between gritted teeth. We all feel like that from time to time – yes - even us folk at OutdoorCureOnline. Simplifying your life can make you feel calmer and happier, and often, stripping things back to basics is when we begin to see things clearly again including… drumroll please… ourselves.

Imagine for a moment that drawer – y’know, the one in the kitchen that is spilling over with random bits and useless things (we are not sure at which point in kitchen design the designer builds this in but they clearly do because everyone has one). When our lives are over complicated, this drawer is exactly how our minds look. Simplifying our lives declutters our minds and thoughts. So, what can we do to make our lives simpler?

As you may* already know, the OutdoorCure motto is ‘Think simple, Think different’ and today’s blog focus is on the ‘think simple’ half of our motto. Here are our top 7 tips to make life simpler:

v If you have a lot to do, do one thing at a time. We often try to multitask to increase our efficiency but actually focusing on one task at a time often gives better results, makes us feel less stressed and allows you to see your progress clearly, rather than have several unfinished tasks.

v Think simple. Get in the simplifying mindset and ask yourself things like ‘what is the one step I can take right now to simplify this situation?’ and ‘what is the most important thing that I can do right now?’

v Simplify your connections. Spend more time with those who help you to keep things simple and positive, and less time with those who drag you down into complications and drama.

v Ask the question instead of guessing, and simplify your communication. We often overthink, overwrite and oversay. Keep it short and focused.

v Reassess what you spend your time doing. Life changes and so do we as people. Something that was right for you at one time may not be right for you now. Don’t cling onto it just because it is what you are familiar with.

v Look at your patterns. Do you check your emails or social media 971 times a day? Cut it down to once or twice a day and you will find you can give your energy and attention elsewhere.

v Declutter that kitchen drawer or any other places that are overflowing and chaotic. If everything has a place it is easier to keep your home ordered from day to day. It really does help how you feel on the inside.

*you definitely do because we go on about it all of the time 😊
